Santa Clara County is putting on its red ribbons this week with a series of free events leading up to Saturday’s 30th annual World AIDS Day. A portion of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt is on display through Friday at the Santa Clara County Government Center in San Jose, along with a photo project by Santa Clara University students in partnership with volunteers who are living with HIV. On Thursday, the “red ribbon” flag for HIV/AIDS Awareness will be raised at San Jose City Hall at noon, and at 6 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil at the City Hall Rotunda to remember all those who have been lost to the epidemic.

Eating Disorders and Body Image Support Groups: The Eating Disorders Resource Center offers free support groups to create a safe space for those struggling with eating disorders and body image dissatisfaction. Tahsler, 67, gave up his rock ‘n’ roll dreams in 1969 when he married and got a steady job, “but I always loved music,” he said. After retiring in 1997, the onetime aspiring musician found himself with time on his hands. He had always wanted to be a writer, and he thought back to what he knew — the East Bay ’60s music scene. “We all know what happened in San Francisco — Bill Graham, the Fillmore, all the wonderful bands over there — but not much has been documented on this side of the bay,” he said.
